Mercedes-AMG was founded as AMG in 1967 by two former Daimler-Benz motor sport engineers, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. The company forged its reputation on the racetrack, from the legendary ‘Red Pig’ to the 190 race car, which won over 50 DTM victories between 1988 and 1993 to the latest GT3, which took the first four places at the 2016 Nürburgring 24-hour race. AMG is also synonymous with powerful, bespoke road cars, with a model range encompassing hatchbacks, saloons, estates and SUVs, as well as coupés, including the GT series. Today, over 1,100 employees work for Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach, and in 2016 the brand delivered almost 100,000 vehicles worldwide.
