The Mercedes-AMG SLK 55, priced at £55,345, is the performance flagship of the SLK-Class range, and is powered by a 5,461 cc naturally-aspirated Mercedes-AMG V8. Developing 421 hp at 6,800 rpm and 540 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm, this ultra-efficient direct-injection petrol engine drives the rear wheels through a responsive seven-speed Mercedes-AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission, complete with three shift modes. The compact two-seater accelerates to 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds and onto an effortless 155 mph electronically limited top speed, while posting combined economy and CO2 emission figures of 33.6 mpg and 195 g/km.

High efficiency V8

The naturally-aspirated hand-assembled 5.5-litre V8 engine features Mercedes-AMG’s sophisticated Cylinder Management System, which shuts off two cylinders on each bank of the V8 when the car is running on light throttle loads. The Mercedes-AMG SLK 55 is also fitted with an ECO stop/start system as standard, resulting in a 30 per cent increase in economy over the outgoing model. Other technical features include: ultra-high 200 bar pressure for the direct fuel injection; an all-aluminium crankcase; ultra-low friction cylinder linings; four-valve-per-cylinder design with continuous camshaft adjustment; and an innovative sports exhausts system.

Mercedes-AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission

The AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission has three transmission modes: Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M), which can be selected by means of a button on the centre console. The gears can be changed using the AMG shift paddles on the steering wheel.

In keeping with its performance credentials, the Mercedes-AMG SLK 55 is fitted as standard with Mercedes-AMG sports suspension featuring the Mercedes-AMG high-performance braking system with Torque Vectoring Brake, Mercedes-AMG Direct-Steer system, as well as an advanced three-stage ESP®.

Mercedes-AMG styling

The arresting style of the SLK-Class is dramatically enhanced by Mercedes-AMG’s styling package. Highlights include: 18-inch five-spoke Mercedes-AMG alloy wheels; ‘V8 AMG’ lettering on front wings; Mercedes-AMG bodystyling; Mercedes-AMG door sill panels in brushed stainless steel; Mercedes-AMG LED daytime running lights; Mercedes-AMG-specific radiator grille in high gloss black with chrome trim strips; Mercedes-AMG spoiler lip on boot lid and a Mercedes-AMG sports exhaust system with two chromed twin tailpipes.

Cabin class

The Mercedes-AMG SLK 55's cabin is similarly enhanced with Mercedes-AMG styling that includes: a Mercedes-AMG instrument cluster with Mercedes-AMG menu including Racetimer; Mercedes-AMG Performance three-spoke multi-function nappa leather steering wheel with aluminium gear shift paddles; Mercedes-AMG sport seats and sports pedals and footrest in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs.

A roof for all seasons

The Mercedes-AMG SLK 55’s advanced two-piece metal vario-roof features a lightweight magnesium frame and uprated electronic mechanism that converts the two-seater from roof-up coupé to open-topped roadster at the touch of a button in just 20 seconds. It is available is three formats – the standard vario-roof, the option of the transparent Panoramic vario-roof, and the Panoramic vario-roof featuring the Mercedes-Benz Magic Sky Control system, which allows the light and heat intensity in the cabin to be varied at the touch of a button. To further enhance the roadster’s roof-down appeal, drivers can opt for the innovative Airscarf neck-level heating feature and the Airguide pivoting transparent wind deflectors that significantly reduce in-cabin buffeting.

Excellent versatility – roof up or down

Boot capacity with the roof raised is 335 litres compared to 300 litres in the outgoing model. With the roof retracted, this drops to 225 litres including 51 litres of luggage box capacity under the boot’s reversible floor - a useful 17 litres up on the outgoing model and an impressive 80 litres over the original SLK-Class

Unparalleled safety

All models in the SLK-Class line-up feature class-leadings levels of safety and driver assistance features. Highlights include: Attention Assist, Adaptive Brake, Pre-Safe®, Neck-Pro active head restraints and Active Bonnet are all fitted as standard, backed up by six airbags and the latest generation of anti-lock braking, traction, stability and skid reduction systems. Additionally, the Mercedes-AMG SLK 55 is fitted with a Mercedes-AMG high-performance braking system with internally ventilated, perforated brake discs and Intelligent Light System.
