The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 – the world’s quietest production saloon car – is the most luxurious, comprehensively-equipped and refined S-Class ever produced, and aims to set new benchmarks in passenger comfort. It combines sumptuous levels of lounging space with exceptional levels of connectivity and convenience equipment, powered by a whisper quiet 530 hp 5,980 cc biturbo V12 engine.
Extending the wheelbase of the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 by 200 mm over the long wheelbase S-Class to 3,365 mm delivers an even more luxurious interior: rear headroom increases to 963 mm while rear knee room expands from 344 mm to 462 mm. The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 posts length x width x height of 5,453 x 1,899 x 1,498 mm, compared to the 5,246 x 1,899 x 1,496 dimensions of the S-Class long wheelbase.
The steel and aluminium hybrid body structure has been significantly modified to maintain its integrity and rigidity, with extensive reinforcement around the B-pillar structures. Further features include extensive use of cast aluminium and high-strength steels, along with the efficient use of appropriate joining technology such as aluminium MIG welding, self-piercing riveting and the first use of RobScan welding on aluminium in large-scale production.
The styling of the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 draws on the S-Class long wheelbase, and adds a choice of two designs of 20-inch wheels, chrome accents for the B-pillar and the lower edge of the doors, extending into the rear bumper, discreet ‘V12’ lettering on the front wings and silver Maybach emblems on the C-pillars, and four tailpipes.
Choice of rear seats
Mercedes-Maybach S 600 buyers have the choice of two rear seat configurations – a standard three seat layout, or individual First Class seats, each able to electrically recline to 43.5 degrees. This First Class Cabin option adds twin, individual, reclining rear seats complete with a central armrest set into which are a pair of foldable tables, temperature-controlled cup holders, silver-plated Robbe & Berking champagne flutes and a refrigerated compartment.
The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 aims to set new benchmarks in passenger comfort with air conditioned, heated, massaging seats, armrests that are gently warmed if desired, and an AIR BALANCE package to circulate scented, ionised air around the cabin with a choice of fragrance. In addition, there’s a 1,540 Watt Burmester 3D surround sound system complete with 24 high-performance speakers, complimented by screens mounted on the front headrests.
An innovative voice amplification system discreetly aids communication between the front and rear seat occupants by altering the volume to counteract ambient noise. Other standard technical highlights include Night View Assist Plus night vision cameras pick up heat sources on the road ahead; MAGIC SKY CONTROL that changes the panoramic glass roof to be translucent or dark if desired; head-up display; and Magic Body Control for optimal dynamic control.
Extensive designo options
The car can be finished in a choice of 11 metallic colours and three designo shades, while inside there are five hand-finished trim options, from burr walnut to designo metallised ash wood and piano lacquer as well as seven combinations of leather, stitching and roof liner colours.
Effortless twin-turbo V12 power
In the UK, the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 will be offered with one engine - a 5,980 cc biturbo V12 producing 530 hp at 4,900-5,300 rpm and 830 Nm of torque between 1,900 and 4,000 rpm. Driving the rear wheels through a 7G-TRONIC Plus automatic transmission, this silky smooth V12 engine can power the 2,335 kg Mercedes-Maybach S 600 from rest to 62 mph in 5.0-seconds and on to a limited 155 mph top speed. It posts combined economy and emission figures of 24.1 mpg and 274 g/km of CO2.
The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 is set to build on the sales success of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which has been the UK’s best-selling luxury car for eight out of the past 10 years. Since its launch, the S-Class has set new standards in safety, comfort and refinement – and in its choice of powertrains. Four-, six-, eight- or 12-cylinder engines power the line-up, three of which are Hybrids as well as two mighty AMG models that combine immense performance with the ability to cover huge distances in comfort. In 2014 a total of 2,709 S-Class models were registered in the UK, an increase of 74 per cent over 2013.
