SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive
Tech data

  • The SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive features “sound cleaning” technology which eliminates background noise for the artificial soundtrack, created to simulate the noises of a traditional SLS AMG, to be heard more clearly through the cars eleven-speaker system
  • Four electric motors weighing 45 kg drive all four wheels via an axially-arranged transmission and produce a combined 740 hp and a thunderous maximum torque of 1,000 Nm, making the SLS AMG Electric Drive the most powerful SLS ever
  • The high-voltage battery in the Electric Drive weighs 548 kg and boasts an energy content of 60 kWh with a load potential of 600 kW, the best figures of any electric-powered car
  • From a planned launch date in summer 2013, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive will cost around £336,000 on the road
  • Extraordinary acceleration allows the SLS AMG Electric Drive to hit 62 mph from a standing start in just 3.9 seconds, whilst top speed is limited to 155 mph
  • Due to its electric powertrain, the Electric Drive’s torque of 1,000 Nm is available from a standstill giving the car a completely linear power curve and offering a driving experience completely unlike any found in a traditional combustion-engined car
  • The lithium-ion batteries, developed over four years of experience in Formula One, consist of 12 modules each comprised of 72 lithium-ion cells. The optimised arrangement of the 864 cells makes best use of installation space and provides the best possible performance
  • With the aid of a wall box charging point, providing a 22 kW quick-charge function, the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive can be fully charged in around three hours. Standard charging time from a standard socket takes around 20 hours
  • The unique freedom offered by electric powertrains means that the Electric Drive’s four wheels can be operated entirely independently allowing selective distribution of forces for each wheel
  • Although the Electric Drive features only one gear, the AMG Torque Dynamics system offers three transmission modes: Comfort, Sport, and Sport plus
  • An eight-stage safety design ensures that the powerful electronic charge stored in the Electric Drive’s batteries remains safe to use and is disconnected in the event of an accident
  • Independent multi-link front suspension with pushrod damper struts replaces the double wishbone axle set up of the traditional SLS AMG Coupé, whilst horizontal damper struts are now used
  • “AMG electricbeam magno” matt paint is exclusive to the Electric Drive and features on the contrast stitching inside to complement the designo black Exclusive leather upholstery
  • AMG high-performance ceramic composite brakes, 402 x 39 mm at the front and 360 x 32 mm at the rear, give minimal brake fade and reduce unsprung masses for better handling in high speed corners
  • AMG Performance Media system gives the driver with full high-speed mobile internet access, information on engine performance, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, vehicle set up, lap times, and information related to the Electric Drive system

Engine reference

  • SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive (auto) generates up to 740 hp, 155 mile range and 0 g/km CO2 local emissions
