V-Class drivers have the choice of two EU5-compliant turbodiesel engines: a 2,143 cc four-cylinder powerplant that develops 163 hp at 3,800 rpm and 360 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,400 rpm; and a 2,987 V6 engine that generates 224 hp at 3,800 rpm and 440 Nm of torque at 1,400-2,800 rpm. Both units drive the rear wheels through a smooth and highly efficient five-speed automatic transmission, complete with Tipfunction for manual gear shifting. A six-speed ECO Gear manual transmission is an option on the four-cylinder engine.
